Preparing for a picnic, whether it's a romantic outing for two or a lively gathering with friends and family, requires a bit of planning to ensure it's enjoyable and hassle-free. Here are the key points to take note of:

1. Planning & Logistics: While choosing a location, it is important to consider how easy it is to get there and whether it is a long walk from the car. In addition to considering if there’s parking, you need to take note of rules such as no alcohol, no grilling, or designated areas. Regardless of whether you choose a quiet, secluded spot or a lively, public area, please ensure the availability of restrooms, picnic tables, shade, and waste bins.

2. Check the Weather Forecast: This is crucial to helping you make plans as wind can be a nuisance for food and tablecloths. It also informs you to have a backup indoor plan or a rain shelter if rain is a possibility, or plan for shade (trees, umbrella) and bring sun protection. Then remember to pack food and drinks accordingly to keep cold things cold and hot things hot.

3. Set a Theme (Optional but Fun): A theme can guide your food, decor, and even dress code (e.g., "Boho Chic," "Mediterranean Delight," "Traditional Nigerian Fiesta").

4. Time of Day: Consider if cooler mornings, late afternoon for sunset, or midday, if you have good shade, is the best time for your picnic.

5. Food & Drink: It is important to know how many people are coming and ask about allergies, dietary restrictions (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free), and preferences. You should also be mindful of perishable foods and use airtight containers to prevent leaks and spills while keeping food fresh. And if you are in Newark, New Jersey, you might consider ordering tasty Nigerian dishes from Ounje Alabeke.

6. Essentials & Comfort: Do remember to pack a large, comfortable blanket as well as bring enough plates, cutlery, and cups for everyone. Also consider bringing trash bags for your waste to leave the picnic spot clean and hand sanitizer for quick cleaning before eating.

7. Packing & Transport: It is practical to use an insulated cooler bag or packer. And while packing, do place the heaviest items at the bottom and fragile ones on top.

By taking note of these points, you'll be well-prepared to enjoy a fantastic, stress-free picnic experience.
